We’re willing to bet that saving more money in 2016 is part of your list of New Year’s Resolutions. Tracey Energy is here with some winter-specific conservation tips that will help you save more on energy in the coming months. These pointers cost little to no money to implement and can save you a large chunk of change!

 

• Plug those leaks: Install bottom seals on exterior doors to prevent drafts. Keep the warm air indoors and the cold air out by correcting air leaks found around windows, doors and electrical outlets. Replace any cracked glass in your windows.
• Conduct a spot check: Check your weather stripping and caulking to make sure it’s not damaged. Inspect your ductwork and wrap bare ducts with insulation. Make sure your ceiling has at least six inches of insulation. 
• Centralize that air flow: Remove air conditioning units from windows. Gaps created by window units can create drafts. Close your kitchen vent, fireplace damper and closet doors when not in use.
• Cleanliness is next to spending less: Have your fireplace and chimney regularly cleaned to ensure that your fireplace is operating at its most efficient and providing you with the most heat. Even more importantly, chimney cleanings minimize fire hazards and the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
• That’s a wrap: Wrap your pipes in insulation to guard against heat loss and minimize the risk of clogging due to freezing.
